“Tunnel of Love” inspires memories of summer – the amusement park ride at the local travelling carnival where couples took a boat through a dark cave. The entrance to the cave was ringed with foliage and flowers. Once inside, we hoped for a quick intimate exchange. And as is fitting to summer love, there was always the unconscious allusion to interior female landscapes.

 

In this gallery installation at Milk Glass, we present to you an immersion in the flowers and images that reveal the hidden strength of the Feminine. The Female in all of Nature combines rawness and energy that has been met, throughout our history, not only with worship but also with acts of subjugation and confinement. We explore a variety of installations – Stephanie Hachkowski’s disarmingly beautiful and powerful exuberance of flowers; Anielika Sykes' haunting colour-film photographs; raw portraits rendered in acrylic on wood by Stephanie McKay; and giclée prints by Hooley McLaughlin that reveal the relaxed sexual tension of Woman. We ask you to reflect on our collective notions of femininity. We ask you to question our societal biases. And we invite you to take your time in this sensual exhibition – images, fragrances, and memories of touch and taste and beauty and strength.
